III

This time I’m not going to write that cute and personal entry but I really wanted to do this since it’s pretty important topic for me~ And before I start talking about things I just want to say that I’m not an expert of these kind of things and I hate SM Entertainment quite a much for various reasons so this entry may have one-sided view of things.

So! Two days ago media announced that The Fair Trade Commission (FTC) Orders SM Entertainment and others to not interfere with JYJ’s activities.
In October of 2010, JYJ released their first album after leaving SM Entertainment in 2009. However, SME and Korean Federation of Pop Culture and Art Industries (KFPCAI) released an official note that asked 16 licensees in the industry to prevent JYJ from carrying out their activities. Those 16 licensees included the 3 major broadcasting companies, 6 K-pop and entertainment news related cable companies, and many album and online music file distribution companies.

Thanks to the JYJ’s fanclub, who told FTC about the unlawful tyranny of SM Entertainment, FTC found SME guilty of interfering with JYJ’s activities in the entertainment industry, and made an order prohibiting such actions in the future.

Well isn’t that great for our boys First they received a mutual agreement with SME in 2012 and now this! Even though I’m trying to be so happy for them I just can’t help myself thinking that this is not over yet. Sure it’s a blessing that FTC has taken an action against SME and is trying to get JYJ back to the music industry in Korea but it’s not that simple.

SME is still one of the largest entertainment agencies in Korea and even though they’re not blocking JYJ directly, they still have a huge influence in these kinds of things. They have so many regular cast members, MCs and whatnot so imagine how high ratings do these celebrities bring to the stations. SME has so many well-known groups like TVXQ, Super Junior, EXO, SNSD etc. so it’s not wise for those broadcasting stations to give up on these moneymakers. It’s all about the money after all in the entertainment industry!

I’m grateful that JYJ has received so much fame overseas and is now capable of doing what they love, even though they can’t do it in Korea. I’m sure that there will be a day when this nightmare is just history and our boys can smile happily, from the bottom of their hearts without worrying about these things.

And I still believe that there will be a day when we’ll see all our 5 boys standing together on one stage, shining bright while having a breathtaking performance~ Always keep the faith!
